History

The Hodges Scholarship Fund was established in 1979 by the seven children of Bishop C. F. Hodges, Sr. They included Clinton F. Hodges, Jr., Darlease Hodges Wormack, Phillip Hodges, Aaron Hodges, Carolyn Hodges Bell, Glenda Hodges and Thaddeus Hodges.

Establishment of a scholarship in his honor seemed an appropriate way to honor the legacy of Bishop Clinton F. Hodges. He served as Bishop of the Bible Church of God. He served the church in many capacities before being elevated to the office of Bishop. He firmly believed that acquiring an education was critical for young people to succeed. He worked with the community high school, Richard B. Harrison in Selma, NC to address the academic needs of young people. He insisted that his seven children attend church and school. He believed that all young people should be afforded an opportunity to acquire as much education as desired. He also believed that once an education was obtained, no one could take it away. A favorite saying was “with God all things are possible”.

Since 1979, a scholarship has been awarded annually and, in some years, multiple awards have been made.

The Hodges Scholarship Fund is a non-profit organization, and all donations of every size are welcome and very much appreciated.
